Prusa Mini Filament Sensor Install

A few days ago I finally ordered the filament sensor for my prusa mini
It came well packaged (got wet in the ran though hence no box..no fault of prusa or the delivery company)

It uses an ir led and some printed parts (Mine came preassemabled as I bought it as a kit from the prusa site directly though this is what the parts would like like if you were to buy just the seperate parts

In my case however I just need to connect and install the wiring which is fairly straightforward

there’s a 3 pin plug on the on sensor wire that connects to the prusa buddy board and then you push the filament sensor onto the existing ptfe tube already on the extruder.

*be careful to not over tighten the small screw that secures the ptfe as it only screws into plastic

the filament sensor cable plugs into the empty socket two from the back of the board (see picture below)

the clip should face away from the side wall of the electronics enclosure and towards the power socket.

once you have it connected then close up the enclosure following my guide before (https://electronenclave.com/how-to-add-wifi-to-the-prusa-mini/)

the filament sensor wiring should go through the small hole in the back of the cable clamp.

Once you have it installed and the cover back on then go to settings and enable the filament sensor.

Then go back to the main home page and go to the info menu then sensor info
Get a length of filament and push it through the sensor slowly and see the if the sensor changes from 0 to 1
If it does then the sensor is connected correctly and working.

Last thing to do is get it mounted to the printer
get the same screwdriver or hex wrench you used before to remove the cover
push the sensor onto the existing length of ptfe tubing and then tighten the screw.

Heat the printer up to the correct temperature for your filament and push filament through and tell it to extrude and see if it works correctly
then to do another test start a print and then after the print has started cut the filament where it goes into the sensor and see if the printer will pause.
